Thank you for all your support during 2014. The names of everyone who completed a survey last year were entered into a lucky draw and I will be announcing the winners soon. Hold thumbs!

With the new year comes a new survey as well as another lucky draw. I am conducting a survey on the collection of East Coast rock lobster, mussels, oysters, mud crab, sand/mud prawn, octopus and redbait during October to December 2013. As many of you are aware, this is part of the Oceanographic Research Institute’s long term monitoring of shellfish collection in KZN. I conduct a survey every three months and the information I obtain from the surveys helps me to estimate the number of animals collected annually and improve resource management. Please complete the new survey at ShellfishSurvey or at Survey ForCells if you use your cell phones to access the internet.

As in previous surveys, all survey participants will be entered into a lucky draw for the following prizes:

First prize: Two uShaka Platinum Passes allowing free entry into Sea World and Wet ‘n Wild for a whole year
Second prize: A Sea World Meet a Dolphin experience for two people
Third prize: A Wild Card for a couple (subject to availability)
Two consolation prizes: Two double tickets to uShaka Marine World (Sea World and Wet ‘n Wild)
Another two consolation prizes: Two double tickets to Dangerous Creatures

This survey is about collection in KZN during October to December 2013. If you held a valid East Coast rock lobster, KZN mussel, KZN oyster, mud crab or mollusc permit during this period, you can participate. Even if you made no outings during this time, please complete the survey, as it gives us important information about the usage of permits. If you also received this survey in the mail, only complete one of the two surveys (mail or internet).

The prize draw will be next year (2015) in January and not in January 2014, as stated on the mailed questionnaires. I apologize for the typo. The winners will be contacted by phone before 31 January 2015. You may only complete the questionnaire once per survey, but are allowed to participate in all of the 2014 surveys (in January, April, July and October 2014) and improve your chance of winning a prize. Please complete your personal details in full and provide a phone number where you can be contacted between 12-31 January 2015 during office hours. All information will remain confidential. Thank you very much for your help.
