Hi guys. I put three of four new pieces of LR in my tank last weekend, jsut to have accidentally introduce crabs into my tank.

No idea if they are good guys or bad guys. They are still a bit small, bout the size of a R1 coing. The one is quite smooth, the other looks like it has fine hairs on it. They seem to just pick stuff off my LR, and I havent seen them take on the cleaner shrimp or hermits or eat my coral. No idea how I am going to get rid of them if I should, as they just sit under the LR, and at the sight of movement, they make a break for it...

    Help please...

Sounds like a hairy gorilla crab - not good.

    But great Mantis food :)

put a glass near their hole with a bit of hake in it and bury it in the sand a bit. make it easy to get in but hard to get out. And periodically check to see if they are in there and move out the other unfortunate fellas that get stuck in there

Thanks scuba. So just to make sure... I put the glass in an upright position. Burry it so they can climb up. They will then climb in, but can't climb out...

    Makes sense... Cool thanks...

Reminds me of catching baboons on the farms. Not so intelligent creatures those...

well, it does not need to be vertical. Just too much of a slope to get out. Maybe out a bit of sand in there to disguise it a bit. You may end up catching a lot of hermits so good luck:thumbup: just keep trying. maybe sump the other things that get caught in the mean time so you dont keep catching them then move them back up when the crisis is over:p
hmm, sounds like fun. I know of when you put mielie pips in a hole in the ground where their hand can get in empty but since they are so greedy wont let their food go so they are basically stuck

Jip, I, anything basically that is stong enough (but not metal as it will cut their hand off) with food in it. It just wont let go of the beans or what ever you put in there...

Hey Warr, I actually will send them if you want, my dad is keeping one in a cup in the DSB too.

How do I get them to you?

    Thanks DUDE

Hey Warr. I am in Brakpan (close to Carnival City) I actually realized I had 4 crabs in my tank!!! I had to declare a state of emergency and went to defcon 4, as the one crab took out my blue leg hermit. I managed to retaliate and killed three of them, and the last one only lost a leg, but he is still in there... Once I catch it I will let you know, then you can tell me whether you want it...
