    I just need some advice!

I think I might have a crab in my tank. I have never seen it, or found its moulted shell before. The only reason I suspect a crab is that I have shredded fins on one fish in particular. Every time the fins just start growing back its shredded again or new fins are shredded. Saturday I noticed a few scales where lifted. There is no sign of fungal infection! The fish wants to heal but just does not get the chance. Im a bit worried it cant cope with this much longer. This fish sleeps in the same spots every night.

    Is this a viable theory?
Would it be a good idea to keep this fish in a breeding trap till it heals, or is that just going to stress fish out more?
Im gona try and catch this ghost, what would be the best method in a bare bottom tank?

    Thanks!

Not necessarily a crab, Yellow Tangs and certain other fish are prone to being quite sensitive.

I have four PJ cardinals and a Bi color blenny. The Bi color can be a bit hostile sometimes, i dont think its him though.

My inverts have disappeared over the last year. Im sure my cardinals chomped my glass shrimp, could never figure out what happened to my hermits. I now think a crab killed them.

Could it be a crab that is to small to catch the fish but does hurt it?

yes its a possibility, it could be due to fish getting a fright as well it can hurt itself

Could I put the injured fish in a breeding trap while I trap crab? Or will this stress the fish more?

I agree, and that was my initial thought. But fins heal quickly only to get damaged again. See top front dorsal. That was gone Saterday, the new skin between fin bones are new, also if you look at those notches on the bone, the bone has already grown back. I am worried this fish might get fin rot or another infection from the damage. Its scales have also healed since Saterday.

Thanks @dallasg! I have been trying to iron out some kinks in my system. So im gona treat for finrot and see if I can trap a crab.

Im going to put the fish in breeding trap so it can eat better.

    Any other views on this?
