thats not a white discolouration its the skeleton of the coral thats showing. Its obviously been damaged or irritated some how and is now starting to recede.

How to stop it...find the cause first of all...do u have any angels, butterflies that sort of thing in the tank that would nip open brain type corals?

Hmmm...ok not fish...how is the flow in that area? Tough high a flow could be causing issues...but from the pic the rest of the coral looks like it is inflating normally so I could almost rule that out...

Is this the first time you noticed this? Could it not have been slightly damaged when you got it and now you are only noticing it? Cause it could have been rubbing against the side of the bag in transit and been damaged before it got to the LFS.

You say parameters are fine...you mean your alk, ca, ph? These are the things I would be checking as well.

looking again the flesh does seem quite close to the skeleton and doesnt look very inflated as i first thought...also notice a bare patch of substrate next to it...so then again maybe it is a flow issue...remember LPS dont like major flow it causes more harm than good with them.

if what ever has caused the damage has stopped, be it fish, flow, irritated from shipping then it should stop receeding and over time in the right conditions grow back over that spot.

What I ment was if it is a flow thing and you move it to an area of lower flow for example you have removed the irritant from the equation and the coral should heal with time.
