    Hey everyone.

Is it possible for marine fish to get cotton mouth disease? I've just noticed one of my blue dot gobies' lips are all furry? He is otherwise fit, fat and healthy and eating like a pig. But I'm not sure what's up with his lips? I've tried to take a pic but they all came out blurry and now the lights are off, I'll try get a pic tomorrow.

These are the best pics I have out of the batch, not very good ones though.

Hmmm, looks like he ate some filterwool or something that's too big for his mouth...
Im definitely not a marine fish sickness expert, but ive never seen anything like that before.
Is is inside the mouth or around (on the lips itself?)

Hmmm, just read up on Drfoster&smith that they have a medication for cotton mouth disease in marine fish, so i take it that it is indeed possible.

I don't think it is lymph, especially on gobies and around the mouth, imo just something viral, good water conditions and maybe some vits should be fine,

Thanks guys. It's a bit difficult to see, but it looks to be just on the outside of the lips, but completely covering the lips. I'll take a closer look today and see if I can get a decent pic.

I remember back when i was keeping freshwater tanks, that my corydoras, loaches & catfish used to get cotton mouth disease much easier than any of my other fish as they are bottom feeding & tend to get more wounds around their mouths for fungus & bacteria to take hold.
I think it might be the same with your goby...

    That looks weird.
How long did it take to get so fluffy?

Yeah, I was kinda thinking the same thing, maybe he's taken a bite of a bristleworm or something, they are terribly inaccurate when trying to take food from the water column, they miss 9 out of 10 times and often completely miss the food and hit a rock instead, lol.

I'm not sure, I just happened to notice it last night at feeding time, I haven't had a close look at them for a while, so no idea how long it's been like that.

Small update, the top lip appears to be much better, there's a lot less 'fluff' on it, the bottom lip still has quite a bit on, but it would seem the problem is slowly going away, will see what happens over the next couple of days. I still haven't been able to take a decent pic, I'm going to go sit in front of the tank with my camera now until I can get a decent'ish pic.

and now when I zoom in, I could swear that looks like a load of bristles from a bristleworm on the top lip, don't you think? Could this fish have been attacked or accidentally tried to take a bite of a bristleworm and got stung? It reminds me of my run-in with a bristleworm when I had hundreds of bristles stuck in my fingers.
