What would it cost me to build an 800mm Cube, drilled with overflow and sump??

Also possibly starfire (low iron) glass?

Matt,Whats the exact dimensions 800*800*800? My choice 800*800*600. 600 as its easier to works in.
How many mm glass?
By the way,no idea whats the going price on starfire at the moment.

Yeah 800x800x600 works (easier to work wit that height even though it'd be MH)

I think it could be 10mm glass? Else 12mm if 10mm not enough...

You need to go at least 9mm for the sides and 14mm for the base on those dimensions.
I would end up with 10mm on the sides and 14mm on the base to be safe.
If you want a safety factor of 3.8.

hi, i just built an 800x800x800 cube in 12mm starfire

the costs were approx:
cube - R3200
black silicone - R300
sump (800x600x400 8mm normal clear) - R600
not sure how much the steel for the stand cost but i think it was about R1000 incl some paint
if you want to galvanize the stand then i think (depending on the weight of the stand) you might have to pay about R600

also factor in pricing for some odds and ends when building yourself (paper towels, blades, masking tape, duct tape, etc.) - R300

also, the plumbing can also get expensive depending how you do it, 50mm ball valves cost about R80 each - R800

you're looking at about R7000 give or take

cheers

oh & i agree with the guys, 800 high looks very cool, but i had to get myself a 400W MH to light it nicely, and it's a PITA to work in...

nope, the whole thing is built out of starfire

MATT my glass pannels 1500x700 19mm x4 cost R10 000.00
my steel frame 40/40 cost R2800.00
steel plate 1.5mm/1200mm x 4 cost R 2500.00
silicon R410.00
