    Hi Brenda,

I'm a PITA when it comes to the correct use of technical terms, and would like your opinion on one relating to anemones.

One quite often see or hear the term "my clown is hosting such and such anemone" Now, the way that I understand this (and English is not my mother tongue, so please pardon if this is wrong...) the anemone is the host, as the fish live in/with the anemone. Therefore, one should surely say that the fish are being hosted by the anemone, or that the anemone is hosting the fish, but NOT that the fish are hosting the anemone.

What are your thoughts on this (nit picking :whistling:) matter?

You are absolutely correct. I don't know why the terms are used incorrectly in this hobby, but they are. I've thought about this a time or two myself.

Agreed, the clowns host in the anemone. Therefore the anemone hosts the fish.

Both are correct in the wild, but not necessarily in captivity.

Good question. The anemone and fish may be free of predatos but the relationship is mutually symbiotic where both parties benefit from the other

Because once in captivity, not all clownfish will go into an anemone.
