Coral Light acclimation

    Yes. This is often overlooked. The corals are shipped in the dark and then suddenly subjected to our intense lights.
    Always best to put coral in lower light area and slowly move it up as it gets used to the light.

    This is also an issue that people neglect when they change their lights. Even replacing old T5s with new good quality globes can cause your corals to go into shock. This was a big problem with people moving over to LEDs as the LEDs were much more powerful than people thought. They tried to adjust the brightness to compare to their original setup and this caused a lot of coral to bleach.

    In my opinion its more important than water acclimation , it boils down to one thing. If you can dim your lights to say 5% output then you can place your corals where you want them immediately and gradually increase your light output. If not possible too dim your lights you have to place them at the bottom of the tank and then over a week or two move them gradually up to where you want them placed in the end.

    The newer lights have acclimatization programs so as to not bleach them !
