Watch this space, we have some exciting news soon!!!

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS FOR HOBBYISTS who are making small frags etc from their main tank etc. not commercial farms etc, you will still need to do the whole aquacultural right and permits for this avenue with DAFF and SARS

    thanks to a great team!

sadly not, its for hobbyists, so it cannot be a main source of income and outside a residence. there will be a pseudo governing body and breeder registry so that those that are going to abuse the privilege can be reported by peers... if you are making 2-3 frags etc then its no issue, its the larger setups that are a concern

which i will be enforcing as i haven't worked this hard to have some moron screw it up

    almost forgot @Adee

what excites me more is that we can now all partake in breedersregistry.org and mofib.com

Would a coral greenhouse in my yard be seen as hobbyist?

there are a few things we are still finalising, but as long as its not a primary income provider etc then should be fine, as its technically a fish tank in another room

i will post everything as i get it

    @459b, you agree?

    Hi Dallas

So you are saying a large system is fine if you are a hobbyist and its not your primary income

Is DAFF involved in this? Just wondering, as the
sounds a lot like their deal.... hmmm, actually, even if it is your only income they will find a way to take it from you.....
Wonder if we can teach some of the commercial fisherfolk who have been robbed of their line fishing rights and livelihoods by DAFF to become clown breeders and coral farmers..... on the side of course.....

    Hi Dallas

Excuse my ignorance here but I'm still new to the hobby ;-)

Is it currently illegal to sell frags from your tank as people are doing now?

Yes Paul it was. This is why everyone is ecstatic. Great work done by Dallas and the reefers mentioned.

Any fraging, breeding fell under the marine living resources act and one had to apply for a right to propagate. This will still be the case from a commercial point of view. But reefers who want to propagate and swop the odd few frags. This will now become legale.:party:

OK understood. What about if you have a permit and take a coral from the ocean, are you allowed to frag that and sell it?

    Yes.
But is such a grey area that is now just finalized.

Same as your dog having puppies. You can sell them. But as soon as you setup kennels to house 50 dogs, and it becomes your business, then other factors come into play, like SPCA and local authority laws. And after all, the government want to ensure their tax income.
