    Hi everyone,

So I was given a large Bengali cardinal a while back. unfortunately I've always had my heart set on a coral beauty or flame angel, so I'm wanting to swap it for one of the two. My tank is fully stocked so can't have both.

Is the coral beauty and flame ok in a reef setup or not? And which would be the better choice if so.

    Thx

Flame is a far more striking fish. Both would generally be ok in a reef setup but there is always a risk. I find as long as I keep my angels well fed there are no problems.

i've had a beauty for more than 2 years now, never seen it nip anything other than a bit of algae on the lr. loves frozen prep, brine shrimp n garlic pellets. lives happily with an equal sized ebils...i think the flame is more striking but seems they tend to die within the first year (don't take that to the bank, just what friends of mine have experienced).

there will be a very good chance that they will nip at stony and soft corals, sessile invertebrates and clam mantles. As for the flame i think its best be kept in an established system. i have never had a flame, but coral beauty i had. For me nipping at softies is not the end of the world, they can recover quickly, but seeing it nip at lovely colorful LPS is another thing.

Just remember, there is always a risk even if some fellow reefers say they have never had a problem.

With any angels there is always a risk
IME the coral beauty is less likely to nip then the Flame
All the flames I have had, have nipped at something or another
Again IME your Zoas and clams are most at risk with these fish

Pygmies are funny buggers, have a wonderfull eibli that ate a brain in a matter of days, pecks at any new sps I introduce, but then loses interest, so it's very reef safe, as long as it doesn't like the taste :p

im on 5 pygmy's now and my flame and potters are by far my favourite.. i would only forsake my flame for a golden angel or red/flame hawk... i love my red in a tank.. it completes the primary colours scheme i base all other additions on ....

yes we do.. although they are scarce..

can go from a price of R600 from one LFS (non sponsor) to R1200 at another...

i have been waiting for another for ages but something always creeps up when they are in stock....
