    Hi all reefers.

I am looking at buying a copper band butterfly fish and just wanted to know if anyone has had any bad experiences with these fish.:(

    Juan,

I had one, very beautiful, fussy eaters (only Artemia in my system) and mine died after 2 months for some unknown reason. Rumour has it they dont last longer than 6 months in captivity, but there are some examples of success stories. I intend to try again once I locate a suitably healthy and correct size for my tank.

    Good-luck!

You will need to quarantine the fish and get it eating in the QT. It would be much more difficult in the DT with other hungry fish..

Had one as well. Bought to keep Aptisia in check. Sorted out the Aptisia, but unfortunately could not get it to take alternative food. Tried everything, but lost it after 5 months. :(

Only get one if you know for sure that it is taking prepared foods such as frozen mysis or brine shrimp. And dont think that if you have aptaisia that it will be enough. They can wipe out the aptaisia very quickly and then will starve if they dont accept other foods.

They very seldom last long. In my experience they fall in the "not worth it" category. It is a truly beautiful fish, but its success rates even in well established aquaria and experienced keepers is very poor. When success is the exception rather than the rule, you are accepting that its worth killing the fish "for a shot". Which isn't exactly a very environmentally considerate way to view it.

Like Marius says, the only time you should even consider one is if it is happily and greedily accepting a range of frozen/prepared foods.
