Hi Leon, welcome to MASA. Glad you joined us. Do you have a tank setup or planning one?
By saying "so many questions" I take it that you still fairly new to this. If indeed so, read the link in my signature for great info regarding beginning a marine tank. You'll find a lot of answers there to your questions ;)
If not, feel free to ask :)

    Small problem

Hi there, this is Leon. As my name sugests, I am a lionfish fan, Im not sue why I love them so much, I just do eventhough they are marine fish eating machines.
I have 2 dwarf lionfish and they have been doing very well and seemed very happy.
From last week they started rejecting the freshwater guppies whiched they loved op to now. They stalk and even catch them but then spit them out.
What ia going on? Ive cept lionfish for 3 years and havent seen this yet.
Does anyone know what the problen might be?

firstly, welcome! great to have you here.

I am by no means an expert on lions, but i do know that feeding them freshwater fish is detrimental in the long run. The proteins and fats in guppies etc are quite different from those found in their natural diet and as such can lead to illness, and eventually death. perhaps this is why they are not enjoying the guppies anymore?

rather try and get them onto frozen stuff, ox heart, brine shrimp etc. good luck!

Why not go catch little fishies in the rock pools for them? That is definitely more natural.
Also, you don't know maybe the guppies was sick and the petshop added meds that the lions are tasting :p
Go catch them some sea fish, you live right at the coast ;)

    Spot on Danimal

Firstly Welcome lionfisleon, you came to the right place :)

Secondly glad you kept the dwarfs alive for so long (what species is it , Latin name if possible).

Thirdly feeding freshwater fish to Lions is a very bad idea the fatty acids will cause liver problems, bloating etc thus shortening the lifespan (this could be an issue here), they should have been trained over to frozen foods ages ago

Rather try a piece of chopped hake on a feeding prong / scewer and dangle it in front of them. Mine also takes chopped calamari/ shrimp/mussel meat...even pellets.

If all else fails get a perforated plastic bucket, hang this in the tank so the top is just outside the water level. Catch the lions & place inside, the confined space will make them easier to feed and the food will be in reach longer.

Trust me a hungry Lion will eat ! But once they go into hiding its an issue
