    hi

im busy going through everything that i have received for my new cube and i didn't order a tank controller as i didn't have the money then but now I'm have second thoughts on the reef angel

can people using the reef angel just tell me why you like it and what it does for you..i don't need to control my lights cause they have a built in controller and just need to be programmed. my vortechs I'm not worried about controlling. what do these controller do for you. also i have an auto top up.

the main reason i was going to get it was just for the ph probe, to control the heater and for the thing to operate 4 dosing pumps

    thanks

    Hi @SApicoreef

The Reef Angel gives you a control platform, meaning from anywhere, anytime you know what your tank is doing!

It way more than only controlling lights, or checking pH etc.

You can setup dosing cycles, turn things on/off at will, do auto-mated water changes if you have the space for a pre-mixed salt drum, or even mix salt to the correct salinity.

You can control flow in your tank, even if you only have sunsun pumps, by setting up on/off cycles or even anti-sync.

Think of the Reef Angel as a PC for your tank, or a tank-sitter, it can warn you about problems, and do task accordingly to save your tank.

A live demo would be best, any member in KZN that has a Reef Angel? Maybe you should have a look at it in action

Excatly what @butcherman said , you can use your pc or smart phone, so the smaller LCD screen is more for the quick menu options on the head unit, like turning your sump light on quickly, to show off the new hardware to a friend etc.

Reef Angels have small screens to make them more affordable, if you are after a large screen buy yourself a dedicated Netbook to run everything. this is a worthy investment and you will still end up spending less all in than on most other aquarium computers out there.

    Um

This is a case where a customer is asking for a certain feature to be looked at. And what is the supplier saying? They say find a different brand to plug into our device. Sounds odd to me, sounds like there is clear room for improvement. A big LCD module or such for those of us who want it, and not want a pc to control the device.

    Im just saying

Bigger and better screen = higher resale price = not good

Its like a BMW. The base model will get you from A to B. Ticking a lot of optional extra pushes up the price. But still get you from A to B. But now with a 19 inch tyres instead of 17 inch.

I disagree. There will be a big market for it. A nice big reef angel LCD showing all the stuff will be very cool.

People buy expensive cars because they can and they want to and there is demand for it. What makes this situation any different?

The only time I look at the LCD on my Reef Angel is when I'm doing the PH and Salinity calibration, otherwise I use the PC or Android clients. Why would I want to use a screen that I have to go to the tank to look at when I can look at all the parameters on my phone from anywhere?

I am sure they can do something, but personally id rather spend the extra cash on some new expantion modules like the tunze cable or ORP kit ;)

    @rakabos

I received a reply from the Reef Angel guys :

    Hi Jean,

In order to add a bigger screen, he will have to DIY the module.
I have a 2.8" prototype screen, but haven't moved forward much with this project.

    Sincerely,
    Roberto.

So seems like he does have something brewing in the background

I think there are just reef angle people here

Let me add some points about profilux - based on the costing some people just can't afford a profilux

Profilux can do anything you can and want to do on your tank

from maintenance to flow pumps to lighting & dosing and and and

have a question and what you want I will try help you answer how the profilux can do it
