Hi guys and gals, is this possible. My convict surgeon just seems to get fatter everyday. I do see him deficating, but his stomach is actually quite bloated. What can I do to fix this?

Hi Luke - please post a picture? It can be OVEREATING itself.... due to you feeding, as well as due to algae it's eating in the tank.....
Try and feed less - feed only once every 2 days....

Fish do NOT need to eat so often as we feed them! I know! My fish are AS FAT AS PIGS! ;) And I feed only once a day, in the evenings!

just a thought check his "fillet" in relation to his stomack was it in proportion before or did he not perhaps starve a little and now that he is gutsing himself look a little out of proportion? this happened in the past when weaning convicts onto prepared foods as they have a very high metabolism and can loose weight very qiockly..

Shot for the replies guys, I think it's the endless supply of algae, he's not taking prepared foods yet, so ya, that would be great les, please keep postin on your progress too. Thanks jacques, think I might try that too as my Bean machine is pooing like crazy and making a mess that I have to clean up every weekend.

Hi guys, got some really bad news. My convict died yesterday, I found him stuck to the inlet of one of my power heads, so sad man. He was fat the one day and dead the next. Dunno if he died from getting stuck as he was a juvenile, or if something else happened:(

Sorry to hear Luke, my guess would be there was something else that happened. I dont think a healthy fish would get stuck to the inlet of a power head, but anything is possible i guess. :(

sorry to hear buddy im sure it was due to the weaning phase where they just loose body fat and generally strength, the symptom of a bloated belly leads me to that conclusion.. on the up my regal is still fine but a guts.. sumpathy for your loss dude..
