A low cost plastic tub, used for a reef pond, can go for days with no power. The large surface area gives the oxygen, and a simple battery power small pump gives the circulation.

In addition to this, during normal operation, you never need to clean glass. It looks totally natural from the top down, like walking on a shallow reef with the tide out.

Maybe an indoor pond with 1 glass panel? I mean a rock pool is cool but you need 1 side view.

The problem with Joburg it's too cold. The amount of heaters and running expense to keep the pond at the correct temp would cost more than buying the same size tank. A coastal area would be ideal.

I guess if you raises the pond and had one side that is viewable. Would be a massive project.

Or you could dig down the side of the pond, and put a step-down window there. If it leaks, so what.

How about a solarium over the pond. Could be an extension of your kitchen.

Now thats a plan. Pretty sure it could become one of the most expensive builds to date if yu get side windows etc.
Would be very excited if I could see a build like this.

Dont realy know he uses a open system sea water pumped in sea water returns to the sea.It helps when you live on the Palm artificial island and the sea is like 10 meters from your garden.I know he spent a hell of a lot of money to built it.
