Hi all I have a few questions regarding the parring of clowns

First off has anyone had any luck parring clowns of different species ? Or even same species with different color variations ?

Second at what age/size do clowns reach sexual maturity or change

Reason I ask is because I have two percula clowns in my tank . One is a Picasso and the other is a black percula .

When I first introduced them for the first few days they were together all the time.

Until the Picasso found my 2 bubble anemones they then began to fight a lot

they have calmed down over the last week but stil fight every now and then

Only the picaso sleeps in the bubbles

Will they sort themselves out or will I have to remove one ?[IMG][IMG]

although fancy names, they are still the same species.

The Picasso, already turn into female, or is busy changing. At the moment showing her dominance over the male.

Will fight less in a couple of days, once the male accepts the dominance over him and he starts to do the shaking dance.

How long is it supposed to go on for ? My clowns have been doing that for about 3 months and every night the bigger one (female) hits the male a couple of times, especially after feeding, and all he does is start shaking like he is epileptic.

I would love to see more colour variations

I've read about maroon and true percula and maroon and tomato clowns cross breeding. But it's not easy as the maroons are quite aggressive.
Attatched is a pic of a tomato and maroon hybrid.

You are busy pairing two different species of clownfish with one another as your Picasso clown is A.Percula and your Black percula is A.Ocellaris.

They will pair off successfully provided that you do not have two females.

    Yes really,

A black ocellaris and a black percula is the same fish because a black ocellaris is also known as the Black Perc, Black Percula Clown Anemonefish, or Black and White False Percula Clown,

I doubt you were lied to at the pet store.

I'm b bit lost Cus a ocellaris and a perccula are different species are they not ?

So is it just whatever people feel like calling them ?

Is it not true that ocellaris have 10 dorsal spines and a perccula has 9

It is it the other way round

There must be a way to differentiate between the two species ?

    yes they are different species.

People can call a fish what ever they like, but the species cant be changed.

Ocellaris has 11 spines and percula 9 or 10.

    Thanks @jclaas.
Don't know why people don't just call it occelaris and percula, would be much easier:thumbup:
