Need some help, I have had a clown tang in my 500 lt system for about 2 months now. Last night I added a regal tang from a 6 week QT, the clown tang did not like this at all and has been going at the regal.
The regal is a little small than the clown tang

Currently I have the following live stock in the tank,

    1 x Regal tang
    1 x clown tang
    1 x scopas tang
    2 x clowns
    1 x wrasse
    1 x cardinal
    2 x cleaner shrimp
    2 x fire shrimp
    1 x blue lobster
    1 x bandit shrimp

My question is, will they settle or do I need to remove one of them, if so which one should I remove? I would like to add a yellow or purple tang at a later stage?

Remove the clown, they are agressive as you have noticed, the regal has a friendlier disposition. Also, 500L a bit small for a clown surgeon. You might also pick up an issue with the scopas and a yellow / purple. If bigger than the scopas and healthy, you have a good chance.

    consider your aquarium size carefully

500 litres is small relative to 2000 or 3000 litres . clown tangs are fast swimmers and need space to flourish . as for their disposition , they are well known to get VERY grumpy and aggressive when they get bigger . please try and understand that many fish get very territorial and some fish simply need more space than others ... specially tangs and even more so clown tangs , sohal tangs and the rest of the acanthuridae family

if you insist on trying to keep them both then you can try and distract the more aggressive one with a mirror against the side panel of the tank . it makes the angry party fight with its own reflection instead its tankmates ... ive seen it work in other aquariums as well as my own

Will be better short term because long term will result in long term stress on the fish.

Caught the clown tang without having to destroy the tank, so happy.
Putting him in my dad's tank for now, it is about 800 lt with no other tangs. Will monitor him.
Thanks for the advise guys. Regal has come out of hiding and looking happier already.

Clown Tangs are very aggressive as Ivan stated, not a favorate Tang amongst Reefers. Best he be left in the ocean....

Beautiful fish, but always bastards. I have to restrain myself from catching them. They murder fish almost twice their size.

    Hey Guys, another question?
Since I took the clown tang out my tank all has been going well until earlier today. My cardinal and scopas tang have been going offer my ocellaris clowns, as soon as the clowns even think about coming out of hiding they get nailed by either the cardinal or the scopas.

Do i need to worry or will they sort themselves out. Scopas and cardinal have been in the tank for about 4 months and the clowns since last week Friday?

Thanks for the advice once again

    They should sort themselves out.
Not sure why a scope would bother clowns. especially in a 500L system.
