    Hi All
i have had a clown surgeonfish / tang in my tank for some time.
i always knew he was a little cheeky
over the week i added some tangs , and now he has become a bull in a china shop.
it seems to be teritory based , as he dominates one side of the tank , and the newbies on the other side.
weird thing , is that i have a vlamingi , which is happy all over the place , and doesnt get bother but the clown.
i have a long tank , so they are happy to stay away from him , but i want my fish to swim and enjoy the space rather than clumped up on one side.

i know to settle this people say feed nori , and try and break teritory, by moving things around , but my tank isnt a piece of cake to move around.
i tried yesterday to leave my net and a few other things on his side to disrupt him, but not too sure if this has helped.

any suggestions on how to sort this out.

in my experience with a clown surgeon, it wont stop, used to drive me nuts as i had nearly 10 tangs ( it was a large system) and all had to live in one area while the clown surgeon guarded his half of the tank, very territorial fish

sump him for a couple of days, let the other fish enjoy the tank/establish themselves then pop him back in display.

They're incredibly aggressive fish. It's only going to get worse as it grows.

I say leave it be..... There is no way to solve this unless u remove him which like u said is impossible.... 1t can go 1 of 2 ways.... In a coupla days they will get use2 one another (mostly the case) ..... Or the fighting may not stop untill 1 of the 2 dominent dies... Goodluck

the best solution is to remove him, will save you money and heart ache, eventually your other fish will get whitespot or the like from constant harassment and clown surgeon grow large very quick.

better off spending the time trying to catch him or get rid of the other fish

sorry but bad advice, we are trying to make the fish happy and content, just like before they were caught

which also reminds me to say, research your purchases

Thanks guys didn't realise he would have been this bad.
Any suggestions as the how to catch him.
I cannot freely move around my tank, so plan needs to be precise.
    Thanks

Catch him with a catch box. Works like a charm. Sump him then for 3 weeks and then add him back. He will always be the boss but the more tangs you have the better as the aggression is dispersed. Maybe also adds a Sohal because that will keep him in check.

I just took out my clown surgeon and now my sohal has become very aggressive, they where keeping each other in check before. I am going to sump him tomorrow for 3 weeks.

    Current Tangs:

    2 x yellow tangs
    Purple tang
    Tomini tang
    Sohal tang
    Achillies tang
    Naso tang
    Gem tang
    Powder blue tang
    Sailfin tang

Sorry only took out the clown surgeon because I have added a regal tang and am waiting for a chevron tang and black tang to arrive, so was looking for the space.

No, they all kept in a 2 meter tank. When you have tangs you need to put lots to disperse the aggression. They all live happily with the sohal getting excited sometimes but he picks on them all so it's not so bad.

Just put him in detention and he comes back to reality for a while. He only normally gets aggressive when I feed and especially when it's norri.

can use glass panes to block off on side of the tank. 2 pieces, to ensure that fish cannot escape passed the glass. Then you can remove the rock from only that one section of the tank, making it easier to catch him. The fish got difficulty seeing the glass in the water and ends up against the dividing glass.
