Hi Jason - I am assuming that you are talking about a "nemo" clown (amphiphron occellaris or percula) right?

If this is the case, then NO - it is NOT normal. They should not nip on SPS corals. The only thing that I can think of, is that it has developed a taste for the coral polyps...... Or perhaps it is actually doing something else, other than nipping (perhaps scratching himself?)....

BUT - you could try and isolate the coral or try and move the coral away (the clown should not swim around looking for the coral - it will then have to "re-orientate" itself with the environment.....
Alternatively - you can temporarily (only for a very short period of time) enclose the SPS coral with a glass container (a tumbler perhaps).....

Ive found nemo clowns are a 50/50% bunch, i meen take my 2 for example. They harass my Fire Goby (even shredding its tale at times) and disturb my Blue zooanthids all day long...

Yes little nemo... Its nipping on the SPS, not scratching him self... he swims close to the coral, and jab, he nips at it... I coverd it with eggcrete but he so small he can get inside of it... i have moved the frag to see what he does... he goes hunting for that SPS frag... Its just the one frag...

As I said - It has probably developed a taste then for the coral polyps.... You say that it actually went swimming around the tank to look for the frag?
Perhaps try the glass tumbler suggestion - once the clown can see that it cannot get to the frag anymore, it would/could most likely loose interest.

Will just have to do that... Yeah he does... But all of a sudden, frag in the tank about a week now... There are small white spots on the frag where he started to nip... Will cover it and keep a close eye on the frag... Its got nice blue tips....

My wife complains that my clarkii is like that - she cleans my tank's glass sometimes - and same thing happens. As soon as she gets too close to the nemmie, the clarkii attacks as well ;-)

Hey Gaz, mine also nipped me! Luckly not drwing blood...

Jason, one thing on the nipping..luckly it is a Zoa...
Zoa's grow fast becasue in nature they easily fall prey to angels ect.
Some articles sugest that a small amount of nipping may actaully benifit Zoa's and stimulate growth... Maybe frag your Zoa's if you can and leave a frag for Nemo. Maybe he will loose his taste for it or the Zoa will respond with rapid growth :)

Hey J, Mine also only attack's when I'm close to the Nennie. Otherwise he just want's food... Must indicate a good strong bond between the clown and nennie...
