Hi. May sound like a stupid question but I was wondering if you are lucky enough to have clown fry, why won't they eat frozen microplankton or frozen rotifers?

It is mostly accepted that newly hatched larvae are not attracted to first foods which are dead.

It has to do with the size of the live food as well. They will feed on newly hatched brine shrimp but only probably after 3 days or more. Due to the size. The only true food accepted by the fry would be rotifiers. Unfortunatly. Their survival rate is also very poor.

Rotifer is the right first food for newly hatched larvae.

Not that i know about. Best to do is culture your own. Perhaps start by research how to make phytoplankton and that should explain to you how "involved" this is. We have all been there wanting to try and raise clown fish fry..but it takes someone to be at home 24/7 for the first couple of days to feed. An auto feeder will not work as the fry is very sensitive to "dirty" water. Daily water changes ect...

Maddy I'm sending up Rotis up to Joburg very soon, just waiting to split the culture, I already think you are on the phyto list in another thread.
When I find the time, we will be launching our Rotifier Culture 101 kit, follow our instructions to keep your rotifier cultures up while your fry matures.
