So everybody wants clowns and a nennie in the aquarium and obviously the clowns must stay in the nennie.

Now can one keep clowns without a nennie or any other coral in the aquarium or is it a no no.

You may get the clownfish to behave a bit more naturally if you had some coral or an anemone in the tank but as has been stated already, you definitely do not need either coral or an anemone for you to be able to successfully keep clownfish.

Aqua cultured clowns can go without hosting spot on their own. Even if you provide an anemone, they can decide to sleep in some random corner of the tank. Wild caught clowns are more prone to host by default.

In my previous tank, the clowns hosted a spot on the sand. Then later they moved to a big pincushion. Later I had an anemone right next to the pin cushion but they never moved in, stayed in the pin cushion.
