    Hi all

Anyone stock mantis traps, had a goby and mandarin disappear, thought it was a coral that stung them, but how realise it is a mantis. Have not seen the beast but can hear the dreaded  click click sound it makes.

    Let me know. thanks

my cash is on pistol shrimp. they stnn small copeods and creatures with an electric plulse often heard as a clicking sound. not sure to what extent this would effect a fish but it is possible.

I am with the others on Pistol Shrimp as well, it is more likely to make that noise, and it would have to be one big Mantis to take out a Goby and Mandarin.

Weirdest thing I also have this clicking sound. I always assumed it was my tank creaking and buckling. Or the plastic cooling or warming

How can I be sure :whistling:

well first get yourself a red light and after lights out, make sure the room is dark as well, then search the tank near the base of the rocks, look for signs of gravel collecting and pilling up for the possible foe, if no signs, then its a matter of checking and listening to where the sounds are coming from and remove those rocks and inspect.

on a side note, do u have any starfish in the tank?

@ dallasg - yes I have a few starfish, should I monitor there numbers, why do you ask?

Will get a red light, and start the night shift.

I had a mantis before in my nano. They are very cool.

    Thanks everyone.

Do I need to get rid of it if it is a pistol shrimp? Adding 3 peppermint shrimp today, ordered them a few weeks ago.

Yeah could be a pistol shrimp iv had one in my tank a HUGE one i could here it dowstairs and my tank is upstairs, the dont generate any form of electrical signal or pulse but rather a shockwave by snapping its claw shut so fast that it creates a cavitation of bubbles that when it collapses is hotter that the sun, this shockwave stuns any creature that is small enough to be affected by it, a friend of mind had one crack against his hand while fiddling in a rock pool, he reckons it was like a hammer hitting him, then we dug around in the pooland found this 3 cm shrimp, scary power for such a small creature,i removed mine by looking which rock he hides in and then remover the rock and squirting fw into it, he shot out like lightning, then i just popped him in my sump
