    Good day fellow reefers.

What do you use to clean your tank with before setting up? My tank have been standing for a while and accumulated some dust. I gave it a wipe with some brown vinegar water and then gave it a rinse with tap water. What I would like to know is, if that was enough or should I give it another rinse and with what?

    thanks

Cool. I used a towel to wipe it out. Will give it another rinse and a wipe tomorrow before the water goes in.

    Hi guys,

Sorry to necro this thread, but my questions are based on the same thread discussion. I just bought a 2nd and boyu TL550 and want to give a proper clean before I start it up. Vinegar and tap water i see if the preferred method but how should i clean the glass I mean with a cloth or a paper towel or newspaper or a sponge? and on the outside of the tank would can you use a detergent ie. Mr. Min or still stick with the vinegar water mix?

    thanks,
    Maximus

    Hi,

The viniger and water is fine. If there is some stubborn coralline algae you can scrape that off with a blade but that should be sufficient. Then rinse with water. Ro preferably but tap is fine. Rather keep ALL detergents as far away from your tank as possible. I normally just wipe down the outside of the tank with cloth. I use two of those new fibre ones. One a little damp and the other dry. First wipe off with the damp one then polish off with the dry one. outside glass is nice and shiny after that.

Yes Im talking about the microfiber cloths. You dont need to wipe the inside down but rather use something like filter floss for the inside give a good rinse and let it dry

Its good to have a 'designated tank cloth' that you don't use for cleaning other things. Using a little bit of Windolene on a paper towel is fine for the outside of the tank to clean it, just be careful not to get any close to the top of the glass or inside the tank.
