    Hi

I have a Nano tank which has developed a small hard growth on the side: whitish and less than 1cm in diameter, as opposed to the pink growths which are relatively easy to remove with a credit card or non-scratch scourer.

Can anyone give me some advice on taking this off without scratching the 'glass'? Any advice on how to remove these growths would be welcome!

    Hi onepenny.

    I use a blade of a carpenters knike ( stanly blade )
go at a 60* angle and only use the blade once, if reused the shar edge rusts inbetween use and scratches, but new blades arte great.

    Good luck

hello one penny welcome to masa, i dont think ive welcomed you before.

cleaning glass tanks is normally fairly easy, acrylic can be more of a challenge. normally we use a blade to scrape of harder algaes and growths on the glass and most of the sponsors on masa will stock them. seeing as you are in jhb why not pop along to idol marine and see what they have.

for the softer algaes that often grow on the tanks glass a magnetic scraper is normally the easiest and best, again go to the sponsors for it:)

if you want a pÄossible id of that growth maybe post a pic and lets see if we can help with that as well.

the pink growths you refer to sounds like a form of coralline algae to me:)
