Hi Forum,

I have a 32 gallon Boyu TL550. The tank has been running several years and I recently took the tank over from my father. I was wondering how often the biofiltration media (bio balls and ceramic rings) should be rinsed?

Thanks in advance.

Depending on the amount of settlement. Just switch off the return before pulling the media out. Do not want the disturbed settlement to flow back into the tank.

yeah, you will find the schedule over time. It does depends on how heavy you feed, number of fish, flow rate through chamber. A lot of variables. So I cannot give a hard number of days. You will find your tank rhythm.

Thanks. I read somewhere that I can trigger a mini cycle if I clean the media too often. So I was worried that once a month is too often.

Keeping it wet and just rinsing it in saltwater should not cause any cycle.
