Hi Skimmer-fanatics,

I have just purchased a 2nd hand skimmer (Reef Octopus OCTX200) which I need to clean. I've heard a lot of people using vinegar to remove coralline algae and calcification within the skimmer... Is this the best thing? How do you go about it (run the skimmer with a pure/dilute mixture inside)? Any particular type of vinegar (spirit/malt/grape!)? Does one have to rinse the skimmer 1000 times thereafter?!

Thanks guys:thumbup:

Just use a bucket, with some old water change water. Place skimmer in it, let it run. add 1L white vinegar.

30 minutes later. Jobs done.

hey RiaanP - thats awefully simple!

Can you use this method for a routine wash aswell? Do we have to rinse off with clean RO water therafter?

I rinse off the colleciton cup and rub the crap off it...so I can see the bubbles forming, else its thick and sludgy...lol
