    Hi Guys

I bought this tank need some advice on the sump.
Was looking at Dallasg's thread and was thinking of getting the bio cubes, I have been reading a few threads on the site about them.

Excuse the pics the tank still needs to be moved into the correct space and I must still empty my current tank and transfer everything over.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

looking at your sump from right to left...
first compartment i would have the skimmer
then through the small baffles i would have plenty of mechanical filtraction to make sure water is super clean, even use a filter sock on the skimmer chamber. this will help alot with keeping the system clean
then i would have bio-cubes bomb, heater and another form of biological filtration, which if the water is kept detritus free wont be an issue.
    then have your return pump

thats how i have my sump, i will post pics of it as i am making it even simpler this week

Looking forward to see it filled up.
What is the size of the tank? Sump looks small, might be hard fitting a good skimmer Rated for tank volume in chamber including a filter sock.

Looks like a 60cm sump, Going external skimmer will work perfect then

Hi CJT - tank is a great size. The sump though - I would say that this sump is VERY small. When/if you ever experience an power-outage, the water coming down from the main display tank into the sump, would flood the sump EASILY....

I would rather try and get a much larger sump. Luckily, sumps should be TOO expensive. And yes - you can indeed go for an external skimmer, but you would still want to place your other filtration media into the sump, and such a small sump is not going to "cut it" for that size DT.

    Hi CJT

I have a 800lt tank and a 350 lt sump that just manages to handle a power failure, so I have to agree with @jacquesb you will flood your floor with loads of sea water, looking at the tank and stand I can only guess the sump is small as you cant fit a big one in the doors while the tank is on??

Get a hole cutter and cut 2, 40mm holes in the sump then build a new one the same size (if you can get bigger in the doors link up the two sumps with plumbing this way you can dbl the volume of the sump with out having to get rid of it.

I noted on a thread the easiest way to aline holes between two pieces of glass is put lip stick on the pipe push it through and press it on the glass where the other hole needs to go it will leave a kiss mark for you to drill on :)

    Hope this helps a little

Thanks for the responses guys I think the sump should be fine I will just double check the water with the power off.
The guy I got the tank from ran that sump and the tank was stunning.

dallasg what other type of mechanical filtration could I use maybe filter pads etc?

Just to interject my thoughts here again :) while the tank is empty you can increase the sumps size once its full its to late. You have the space under the tank, (I assume) rather now than latter??

Should I run all the water through the skimmer or split it and run some through the skimmer and some straight through the sump?

Depends on the quantity of water it can handle, the skimmer and i would say it is a personnal preverence. I split mine but have two sumps, one with dsb there i dont skim and the second sump i skim with the dsb overflow running into that same sump and this all over LR before it returns.

Bud I would stack on left, right and middle and not till the back glass as the fish are going to hide there most of the times and I would place the ship wreck right on the sand bed,two halfs close to each other, placed on a lr inbetween at middle of the ship where it broke in half.why I said stacking on the three places then u see a bit more sand as well and it looks like 3 different reefs,if u know what I mean!but it's looking great bud.that damsel my bro got from u,is bloody naughty,he's moving all the rocks as he wants it!!!hahaha
