Choosing DIY LED's

    I have been doing some research into LED's for a second build and found this quite interesting, thought I would share briefly.

    Photosynthetic spectrum:

    Wavelength at depth (vertical axis in meters):

    This is the spectrum we need to go for in our light designs as corals have adapted to use this the most efficiently.

    From this it seems that the Blues are the best, from UV to Blue, the rest are mostly for the looks.

    What wavelengths do you think then would be best for a DIY build - or temperature in Kelvin ?

    I would choose a mix of leds with max lumens in the 400 to 480 nm range, then add a couple of warm white leds for the rest.

    @JackSplat you say you have built a DIY LED light before ? where did you buy your LEDs from ?
