Hi guysI am currently busy with my 6foot system..decided to go for mixed reef with mainly softies.I am running two quad 39w T5 units on tank. My question is this..I can get a nice calcium reactor system from a friend for R2500. However due to budget constraints at this stage,I will have to sell a hailea 300A chiller to get cash for calcium reactor. My question concerns which piece of equipment is more important..I don't wana sell my chiller to buy reactor if the chiller will be of more benefit for a healthier system.Also..is it cheaper to run a calcium reactor than to buy calcium boosting supplements every month

Calcium reactor is a nice addition if you have calcium demanding corals. Chiller is a must if temp gets high in summer. Its easier to make do without a calcium reactor and dose supplements than to battle keeping temps down if you dont have a chiller.
Depending on where you stay in cape town, id say chiller is more important than calcium reactor.

you dont need a Ca Rx, rather get the chiller, you can always get a Ca Rx later when you have more cash.

    my equipment list is:

    2 x Cannister filters
    1 x Heater
    1 x Hang on Skimmer
    1 x Hailea 500A chiller
some pumps and lights of course.

thats it, i would have definately lost lots of LS, sleep and money over summer with the temps.
i know of people in our area that tanks reached 33 degrees, so rather keep the chiller.

Agreed def keep the chiller and manually dose your calcium,as David and others have said you dont have corals that are very demanding on their calcium requirements so manually dosing should not be too costly :)

Temp is king and will influence other water chemistry such as oxygen, co2 levels, ph etc etc.. a chiller is far more important at this stage and a carx is seen as a luxury..
