How many of you have had your fish eat cheato?

I put some in my QT tank & the fish in there started eating it so now I leave some in so they can eat it when they want. I take some and place it one a rock with a rubber band like norri.

I am sure it can't be bad for them?

Vatso - most of my tangs eat the chaetomorpha. BUT, they are not seemingly able to digest it. The chaeto comes out just as it went in.... not in a "re-worked" form :)

No - I would not say "bad for them". Just not as nutritious as nori or perhaps even caulerpa... Or even GHA....

Now that could be a topic for debate :) - I am not aware of the nutritional value of any of these foods so I can comment - if they eat it - I will just keep it there & it also helps remove unwanted stuff the cheato - a win win :)

Well - I too would love to know the scientific intricacies of what veggie foods we should be feeding our vegan-fish... ;)

I have read of some people feeding their vegan-fish lettuce-leaves, and even spinach....

BUT, whether these are actually good for them - I do not know. It's like people debating the value and long-term goodness/badness of feeding garlic (because garlic does not grow in the sea).

I DO know, for instance, that not all macro algaes that we find in the sea, is eaten by all vegan-fish - ie. derbesia and bryopsis is not TOUCHED by any of the tangs that I have ever had.....

Doesn't make sense to feed your fish something that cannot be digested. Rather feed them nori and use the chaeto for nutrient export by harvesting and giving away when it gets too big.
It's like feeding a dog bones only as a meal.... pointless as it has no nutritional value.

Again could be debated re it being digested - I put Norri & Cheato in & the sailfin eats the Cheato more then the Norri surely they would know what they can & can't eat?

can't one of the guru people let us know?
