Here is a short video (not very good quality, I must admit...) showing what I consider to be "chaotic" water movement in my tank. This chaotic water flow is achieved by combining three power heads, my sump return via an over-head manifold, and a Polario 22ML set to alternate at 15 second intervals. The leather coral shown in the video is pretty huge, measuring about 450mm in diameter, and standing about 500mm high. It is placed about 300mm from the right edge of the tank, but the water flow is pretty much the same throughout the tank (obviously higher close to the Polario).

Anyway, this is my first video link, so I hope it works...

Says there is an error, and try again later.

Hennie, you nun your Polario on 15 sec interval, may I ask why not the longer intervals ?

Working  It was probably the delay between uploading/viewing from Google's servers which is quite normal

OK, it seems to be working now :)

Well, it pumps for 15 seconds in one direction, then stops for about 5 seconds before it reverses flow, so the "impulse" to either side of the tank happens every 20 seconds or so, and lasts for about 15 seconds. This is pretty close to the near-surface surge created by waves moving over the reef, and it appears to be doing quite a nice job in my tank. I did try to run it with longer intervals, but then I lost the "chaotic" water flow, and it became an alternating laminar flow instead. I suppose that every tank would be different, though, and a longer interval might work better in your tank...

You can clearly see the "surge" starting to move the coral at about the 20 second mark in the video.

OK, just to make everyone happy... here is a short video of my anemone and clown, located on the opposite side of the tank from where the leather is. The flow looks pretty extreme, but the nennie is obviously happy with it - has not moved at all since it chose that spot about a year ago...

Wow Hennie, I cannot wait to get my nennies in the tank again. Awesome Video, and thank you for updating your tank (even if it is via video...lol) lately. Nice to see a well matured, stable tank
