For me what would look awesome is if you take off the part of the hood that flips open and close but leave the rim, if that makes sense.
Then maybe look at getting a nice light unit like ATI makes awesome T5 units

If u have bracing it will depend on how neat it is done. I personally have only a rim with no top cover, as my bracing is quite untidy

Checked in the box lastnight I've got quite nice brackets that suspends from the ceiling thinking off trying them out .....my tank evaporates water quite fast need to top up every 2days so not sure with the canopy coming off if it's going to get worse

on average, your evaporation rate is 10% per week. OK, factors like fans, drafts, algae scrubbers etc does impact the evaporation rate. But for a rough estimate, 10% per week.

i see the unit cant sit the length of your tank.. or can the legs extend? if those bars move when you busy in the tank and the light falls in you could have serious issues ,either hang the unit or stick two strips of glass onto the tank or something

I think better without the canopy. However i would add a vinyl to stick on the glass to hide the bracing away

Just remember without the canopy you need to think about fish that aren't going to go carpet surfing
