    Hey ppl

I have some cheato over my dsb but it never seems to grow. Any ideas why?

    Running for 6 months, got a hopar unit with 1 nano cube globe, its 18watts and runs from 9 pm to 6 am. DSB size is 150 h x 150 w x 600 l.

Is the problem that the lighting is not enough? If so what can i change it to and how close above the cheato should it be.

    The closer the better.
But the K rating is important. Must be below 10000K
Mostly cool white is used, about 6000K. Warm white, that yellow glow types also work, they are about 4500K.
I'm using 2 times 10000K T5. And they seems to be the job just as well.

Others, like @lanzo prefer downlighters. But must be the 12V versions, Do not want to kill yourself. Also in a yellow colour range.

Lastly, It might be that your system just do not have enough phosphates for the cheato to grow. ;)

i have found a small 50W halogen cealing light works a bomb. really make the green stuff grow!!
i have experimented with halides, energy savers etc. nothing comes close to the 50W halogen globe.

I put a 70w MH over my chaeto, about 10cm's above the water surface and it really took off.

If changing the light doesn't work, try getting a batch from a different source. It might seem odd, but I think sometimes algeas also differ between "individuals" to some extend. I could never figure out why some cheato I got from one store grew better than cheato I got from another store. Then again, maybe I put them under different lights.
