    Hi All.

I have a hawkfish that I have had for about a year now and he has been alright with the other fish untill now. A while back I had a disease outbreak that killed most of my fish, but he managed to survive.
The problem I now have is I can't add any new fish as he just kills them.

I have been trying to catch him with the net, which is impossible.
I tried to make a trap with a coke bottle cut in half, from a diy trap Idea I found and filled it with food. He is too scared to even go into it.
I would really appreciate any ideas.

The way I normally do it, is try and partition off half of the tank with eggcrate if possible, more if I can, but rock tends to get in the way, then I use 2 very large nets, 1 to sort of chase him into a corner where the other net is waiting to close in on the fish, but needs lots of patience and plenty cups of coffee and prozac.

Does she have a harpoon gun by any chance.:whistling:

If you look at my tank you will see this is impossible.
The problem is I just open the hood and hes gone.

 Don't give me ideas like that. I might try it when I get fed up and end up destroying everything.

I caught mine with a small de-barbed hook and a bit of squid. I know not many people will like it but it worked and took about 5 minutes only problem is some of my other fish were also trying to eat the bait. The hawk fish was fine. Better then causing stress to all the fish and moving rock. If you do this make sure that as soon as he takes the bait you 'set' the hook so that it hooks him in the lip and not in the throat or gills.

To get him to take the bait I cut a strip of squid and only hooked it through the one end then 'bounced' the bait up and down a bit. He is a predator and should react to the movement and you might get a reaction bite out of him.
