I just wanted to find out what should I feed my red starfish - I've read on the net that they eat algae, but algae alone isn't sufficient, and that the majority of Starfish die within a year because the aquarist doesn't provide the necessary food.
Also, how long do these Starfish survive for with the correct care?

I would say they must only be introduced into a mature system as the will be more different foods available.
Read up more about them on the net to get a better idea of their feeding habits and care.
They obviously need pristine water conditions.

The problem is that I was silly and just went ahead and bought the starfish at the time. It seems to be doing well and moves around the tank quite a bit. I've tried putting some raw shrimp in but he just glides over the shrimp - doesn't seem interested.

Start pushing some food into the substrate, eg brine shrimp, norrie etc

put half a muscle in, then put him on the muscle. The other half of the muscle leave for the fish, it is good excersize for them ripping it apart. My sunday roast that I give to the fish.
