Is thr anyone that can help me on this...

As i have read thr are three types of liquid carbon sources that can be dosed or used in an aquarium...

    Namely...

    1) Vodka

    2)Sugar

    3)White Vinegar

    My question is...
Is thr anyone that has dosed or used White Vinegar in thr system...?
As to Vodka i have asked questions and read quite a bit...Vodka dosing as mentioned in a previous thread, they said dose 1ml per 100 ltrs...correct me if i am wrong please...

As i am not allowed to keep Vodka in my house, i want to try White Vinegar...But i need to know how much ml's is required to dose in a 400 ltrs system that has been running for 3 years...My KH is constant at 9-10...

The biofuel is odourless so it's definately not vodka. Why not try dosing white vinegar at the same dosage as vodka and give us a review on your findings. The worst that could happen is an algal bloom. Remember to ease the system into the regime and dont start with a full blown dose but slowly increase it till you see yout nitrates dropping the slowly reduce the dose till the start rising again to find your system dosage

Tony...Will do...I started last night with dosing White Vinegar...As my tanks water volume is 396 ltrs. That is without the sumps water volume...I dosed 4ml's of White vinegar to the tanks water...Then i added 3 caps of Stability too...This morning i had a look at the water and it seems to clearer...Almost like it is polished...

I will buy Microbacter7 today, if i can find a LFS that sells it...As Sam's aquarium where i normally buy all my stuff is out of stock...

But will keep you guys posted if thr is any problems...

    Thanks

Hey afsal - How often do you dose this way and how many tsp of kalk do you add too 1 lt. How much does 1lt of this mixture of vinegar and kalk increase the calcium by.
Can i add it into the return pump chamber?

I am currently mixing my kalk in Auto Top Up Unit but I have heard that vinegar makes the Kalk solution more soluble. Can I put vinegar into my Auto Top Up and leave it there?

You should start of in small doses and increase it over a while , Also moniter ur phosphate levels and when it drops then maintain that dosage of carbon. Remember that oxygen levels are gonna get hammered by the bacteria aswell

Okay i lowered my dosage of White Vinegar to 1ml a day and will up this to 2ml's next week...I have been dosing this now for 4 days...The water looks clearer...PO4 has dropped to its lowest level to date...I am just keeping an eye on my KH which is currently sitting at 9dKH...

    Excellent news Riyadh!
Try and keep your Alk between 6.5-8.5 DKH. Very high Alk on a low nutrient system, will cause tissue burn to corals.

Hmmm interesting. I'm really thinking of dosing carbon in my tank. I'm currently using prodibio biotim and bioclean.

I had no idea i needed to use a carbon source also.

Any recommendations? my tanks +- 300L

    Mekaeel and others,

what is your opinion on using a single carbon source and it possibility to create a monoculture bacteria ? would different sources of carbon negate this or would the introduction of new strains of bacteria be better ???

Thinking the exact same things Neil. Also does VSV (Vodka Sugar Vinegar) combat this? Using different carbon sources and using one bacteria strain eg. prodibio should bring the strain to a monoculture point.

One is constantly adding bacteria so their is no time for a monoculture strain to develop. Guys have had luck in reducing N and P with just vodka so clearly it works
