    Hey all,

    WRT Carbon Reactors:-

    1) How often should the carbon be changed?
    2) Can it cause damage by not changing the carbon or does it just not do anything?
    3) How fast should the water be flowing through the reactor?

I have a small 400l/hour pump pumping through mine, but I must admit I haven't changed the carbon in 4 months since setting up the tank!

    1. every 30 days
    2. nope nothing will happen it wont work anymore
    3. 400l per hour is ok, 500g carbon per 300L is a good amount

Dude, I have even put my bio balls and ceramics back into the tank...right now I will try anything.

Having severe problems with green grassy algae...did a water test yesterday and added calcium.

ok, the solution to that is simple

    check nitrates and phosphates
    nitrates < 10ppm
    and phos < 0.01

the easist way to get rid of phosphates is lanthanum chloride and heavy skimming in 24hrs re-test and add again...

    also what are you feeding?

try removing as much of the GHA as possible for now

I am feeding a block of live food about twice a week and coral food the same.

What is Lanthanum Chloride and where do I get it?
My Skimmer runs 24 hours a day but i will admit its not a big unit...

    GHA?

Whats your tds readings on the ro unit? Do you do any water changes? What lighting are you using and running for how long during the day? Where did you get the rocks from and did it come with gha? What type carbon are you using? Do you use any type of phosphate media?

Water changes every 4 to 6 weeks using Red Sea Salt
    Rocks were clean base rock
lights runs from noon till early evening
Carbon now needs replacement (any ideas)
No Phosphate media. Gonna put in a reactor at the end of the month. Any ideas on media?

For you problem I would do 10% weekly water changes. What type lighting is it you have as I noticed with certain lighting fuels unwanted algae growth. If you dont have corals you can cut down the hours of the lighting during the day. As for carbon I use Seachem Matrix Carbon. Try using a liquid phosphate remover, it works wonders.

If i'm you replace carbon every 30 days some release phos in the water to test take phos granule and drop one in phos vile test after you test for phos and see if there's a blue trail if so it releases phos in the water
