Is there a physical way of distinguishing between normal carbon and active carbon?

How much more effective is activated than non activated?

active carbon are burn at high temp to drive out the impurities. to test carbon take 100ml water with 2drops of methelene blue and a bit of carbon if it cleans up fast its good stuff if not its...... also it has inorganic phosphorus in it. but there is no better way to get doc out of marine tank i run at 56grams on a 100l of water.

gac is best use when water past throw it and not running over it. rhowa takes out phosphate and organics. so i run it directly before it so that the gac will take out the doc and po remover last much longer.

    Yes adsorb rather than absorb.
