Can you ID this fish please?

    Can you ID this fish please and more importantly is it reef safe?

    local damsel species. reef safe meaning it wont eat coral or inverts -may be quite aggresive

    Would you put it in the tank? I have a clown and a barred flagtail my DT.

    These things are more aggressive than a domino.
    As they get bigger they go a dull brown.

    Throw it back !!!

    Will do thanks. A friend just called me and says a book he has calls this fish a 'Neon striped wrasse'.

    I'm not a fish expert, but that look like a damsel.
    And not a damsel in distress.

    If you can recall Herkie, I had one in my tank last year. Never had problems with him though.

    I've seen tank loads of these for sale, which they shouldn't really as I read up on them and as the guys above have said, they are really nasty buggers and lose all their colour. Scientific name is Neoglyphidodon crossi.

    And a quote from one of my books about this fish:

    I now remember the fish that would go brown when more mature. A small mis calculation on my side and the youngest Lion proved he is the main hunter.

    Btw, I said, had the fish in my tank- never said what happened to him :whistling:

    at least now the lionfish saved you the trouble of catching the bugger again.
