I have had this leather for about 6 months now and about a month back, I noticed this growing from its' base.

I had an outbreak of aiptasia, which I have almost gotten rid of, but as you will see, there is still a little around the leather.

I am not sure if I should be concerned about this 'thing' and if so, how should I remove it without damaging the leather?

Is it attached to the leather or growing through it?

First glance it looked like Halimeda Algae. But need a clearer pic. Might be wrong.

It's so difficult to tell, as the leather has one separate stem (as you can see) that this thing is pushing up between. So I am not sure if it has actually grown through this stem or between this and the one next to it, sorry.

I need to go and Google Halimeda Algae, but is it something that I should be concerned about?

I should have said earlier, that it seems pretty rigid as it doesn't move in the current at all, if this helps at all.

Nope nothing to be concerned about Halimeda Algae is very nice in aquariums.

It uses up alot of Calcium but if your routine water changes happen i dont see a problem.

Go google it and let us know if its the same.

Its not an evasive species, in fact in will probably die out in a few weeks.

Thanks everyone for the help. My friend Google threw out some similar shots, so I am sure you are right about it.

How would it have got into the tank? The LR is at least a year old, so I doubt it would be that. Might it have hitch-hiked on the leather?

For years and years you will see things pop out of LR. Sometimes all depends on the conditions and something might just spike a growth.

That's the reason its called LR (Live Rock) :)
