can i use this mh on my tank?

    howsit guys, can i use this mh on my marine tank?

    U can use any MH unit as long you can fit the right bulb for the wattage of ballast in there

    Interesting unit...

    Is it plastic or metal (the housing). If plastic, I would be very cautious, as MH's become VERY hot.

    As Xtreme said, you would have to buy a suitable lamp (10 000K or higher) if you want your tank to look good. Lower K lamps will be OK for corals and fish, but looks VERY yellow, and makes the tank look ugly.

    That MH unit is a Radiant fitting that we used many years ago. It is OK but generates a lot of heat because the ballast is so close to the globe. Globes do not last long in these fittings and the clips that hold the glass in rust very quickly. resulting in one running the MH without a lens.

    Hennie the fitting is aluminium.

    thanks for the replies guys. think il rather leave this unit, as i would prefer to have a ballast further away aswell for mounting purposes.

    Maybe try adding a little fan to help keep the unit cool. The Dymax ones are good and reasonably priced
