    Hi All,

This is specifically for the amateurs out there that seem to always take nice pics with simple camera/phones etc.

What camera would you recommend that takes nice pics (macro/close-up) (maybe up to around R3000 max) None of these fancy ones that out photgraphy gurus make use of - the budget does not allow for this.

    Thanks,

Im no camera fundie, but one thing Ive been playing around with is crack software for a canon camera called CHDK. Ive got a little point and shoot R1000 camera with this software I can take RAW image, motion detection photos, time lapse, control shutter speeds and flash intensity. These are usually things that only those expensive DSLR can do. And I dont think ive even scratched the surface of what this software can do

Wish Id found this software before I spend R2k on my samsung that cant do any of those things

Does the software load onto the camera - how does one go about this if so?

It loads onto the memory card and is not permanent. So everytime you switch off your camera it goes back to orginal settings. Then when you switch it on you just load the firmware again

All the info is here http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK give me shout if your battling with something Ill see if I can help. Ive only recently discovered this. Thanks goes to @Rory for telling me about this

Yeah that guy is awesome :p

Clinton with that budget I would go for what they call a "superzoom". They usually have a few more features and of course the massive zoom compared to the usual 3x zoom point and shoots. CHDK won't help much with macro but it certainly does have a lot of cool features. Looking at the CHDK list of cameras and your budget the SX range would be good. Pricing on sacamera ranges from 1300 for the sx130 to 3,1k for the sx260 bundle: Canon SX260 Black bundle - (SX260 black camera, Verbatim 16Gb card, Golla bag)

The main site I look at for reviews/specs/etc is Digital Photography Review . They have a review on the 260: Canon PowerShot SX260 HS Review: Digital Photography Review
Would be quite a long read, and you'd probably have to read a couple of reviews for cameras in a similar range.
