    If you need to buy, dose or anything calculate for your system do you include your sump volume aswell or only your Display tank volume?

    Yes, include sump volume, but subtract volume of the rocks and sand in the tank. So not an exact science, unless you measured exactly how much water went into the tank and sump to fill it.

    Depending on what you are calculating.

    If you are calculating total volume, then add sump.
    If you are calculating total volume available to the fish in case of power failure and no return pump, then subtract sump.

    Total flow in tank, exclude sump.
    For dosing, add sump.

    So yeah and neigh

    For dosing, always use total system volume.

    Take away a bit for the live rock, sand etc. I normally try guessing by imagining a 2L coke bottle next to the rocks and then subtract a rough guess from the total volume.
