So as the title suggests, would you consider using a calcium reactor if there was no need for a pH controller, probe? just a reactor, feed pump and CO2 equipment?

As long as you carefully monitoring what's coming out, i don't see why yuo would need a pH probe/controller.

Prohibitively expensive too, well for me they are.

I also think the whole setup ends up costing alot and it mostly suitable for very large and over stocked sps tanks... 1200l + and also for people like me who dont want to rely on themselves to suplement their systems but unlike me can afford it..

    Currently use a Tunze CaRx.

Must say - ph controller a nice expensive thing to have and could run it without it. Just measure alkalinity to check things and I don't know the big whoha with regards to ph issues with CaRx? Mine is always between 8.2 and 8.3 .

I had more trouble with 2/3 part dosing than Carx. Set and forget that's it. Just monitor Alk once a week as growth in tank can cause it to change quickly
