    Hey guys,

I have been made an offer to buy a ReefOctopus Calcium Reactor.

    Good idea. Yes/No?

Currently my tank has mainly fish. I previously had a large variety of different corals and then my system crashed and I lost all but 3 coral. I am thinking of starting to restock.

Is a calcium reactor a good idea? If so why and what is the advantage?

    Thanks.

Are you planning on keeping SPS? If so then yes. It will keep your calcium, alkalinity and magnesium levels stable and you shouldn't have to dose manually. Is it a full setup? Reactor, PH probe, PH controller?

Post some more info on your tank and we'll take it from there.

I have an SPS tank and dont use one. If you like gadgets and fiddling with things then get a reactor but for SPS you can get bye without one

    Jealousy makes one nasty

You make out as if one needs to "fiddle" all the time? if you run CARX.

Why not tell us how much dosing of different products you do every day as well as amount of water changes?

If you can afford CARX put one in ones tank runs more stable if it's setup right as is doses all the time

I cannot be jealous of something I dont want. I add 5 scoops of TM bio calcium per day which maintains my alkalinity, calcium and magensium in balance as well as adds all trace elements and do 120 litre water changes every 3-4 months. I have 1ppm of nitrates and run zeolites. So, all in all it takes about 5 seconds to add the bio calcium per day and a water change about 20 minutes. Pretty easy?

If you buy a 10 kg tub of bio calcium it works out to about R200-00 per month for all my supplemention which is as cheap as it comes.

its a personal choice, i have one but havent yet got to running it (4 years later) and am manually dosing atm.. it is nice to have buts a costly initial outlay. i would consider it once all other basic equipment has been obtained..

IMO if you want the piece of mind that your equipment will provide your tank with the necessary CA,MG,and KH(Kalk) then go for it,i have one and wont look back.;)
