Hi All - need some advice please. I added a few corals a month ago and have been dosing weekly with Kent Marine Liquid Calcium. Today I bought a Ca test kit and tested for Ca for the first time : I have a reading of over 600 which seems crazy. Have run the test twice now and thats what I'm getting...

    Whats the norm?

How can I reduce it quickly if I have to?

    My parameters are :

    Temp: 26c
    SG : 1.025
    PH : 8.4
    NH3:0.25
    NO1: 0
    NO3 : 20
    Ca : 620

Fish and corals are OK, but 1 x hermit and 1 x cleaner shrimp expired this week. Could the high Ca be the cause?

    Thanks

Have you cross checked it wait another test kit? A Ca level that high will cause a snow storm in your tank. Also if you could please check your Alk levels and post it here.
Recommended levels : Ca-380-420 ; Alk 6.5-8.5 DKH. (NSW levels)

Thanks guys - I'm not using Kalk but a product called Kent Marine Liquid Calcium. I am going to check KH levels tonight and will post it here. I did a small, maybe 20%, water change this morning and will test all levels again this eve.

this is a subject i am trying my best to understand, one article suggests that if you raise your dkh too quickly it would result in a white out as mek suggests, from the research i have done, Ca levels that high suggests that your dkh levels are too low.....

I think that a common mistake we make is to follow the manufacturers instructions which one invariably ends up overdosing a product. You should dose according to consumption which you do by adding a product after testing levels and then doing a follow up test the next day. If the results are higher than your original test then you're overdosing if it's too low you're underdosing and you need to take corrective measures to find a daily consumption

What corals do you have? If you only have softies, there is not really much need to dose for calcium.
