Hi all. Will a Ca reactor help to keep your KH above 7,or will it only help keeping the ca high.

How big is the risk of a PH drop with a ca reactor? What can be done to limit the risk?

Must you run a Kalk stirrer with it or can you just use lime water with it? Maybe no kalk?

    Thank you

CA reactor raises both calcium and alkalinity.
It could suppress your PH somewhat if too much CO2 is consumed, hence the recommendation of a PH controller to cut the latter, should PH drop.

Kalk wasse and limewater are the same thing.

Ok let me change my question. Do you need to use kalk wasse as well when running a ca reactor?

its not entirely necessary to run the kalk with it but it does offer a solution to the ph swing problem which could arise..

calcium reactors are commonly run on their own without any ill effect on ph and a kalk stirrer is NOt entirely necessary..

cal reactors also assist in alk cal and ph stabalisation some even keeping mag levels in check if the correct media is used...

hi hermanus you don't have to use a kalk reactor but i would highly recommend it as it helps pickup the ph which generally happens when running a ca reactor
another option would be to let the ca reactor effluent drip near your skimmer as this help air-rate the effluent from the ca reactor.

another method is to run the effluent through a reactor or copartment with aragonite in to assit in buffering the effluent water a bit to detract from a ph dip..

chat to @Kunhardt, he is running a Tunze CARX with no kalk stirrer but he is topping up KALK via his RO top up..
