    I was thinking the same,
They must have been really small or very big boxes..
On the other hand how did they count to 2 million!
Anyway I'm just happy they alive and got to a rescue centre...

Mmmmm, found this on another site - 2 million sounds a little far fetched for 8 of those :

Just because that's the article picture on the website,
It doesn't mean it's the actual polystyrene container ;)

how can they be so endangered as somebody obviously are able to either catch 2 million of them in a very short time, or they were tank bred? If tank bred, that should be good news, as that means powers to be should be able to raise loads of them for release.

See the shipment is expected to sell for 60 000 Euros. Wow, that is a lot.

Wonder if they grow them out or do the Chinese eat them this size? I expect they were destined for the food market.

I lived in China for three years and never saw or ate any eel that small. Might have been added as ingredients in other dishes, but generally when ordering eel they are much bigger.

I must hasten to add, it never ever occurred to me back then that my dinner might be illegal or environmentally unsound.

The obvious stuff like shark fin etc we avoided , but eel never crossed my mind as an issue.
