It all depends where you buy it some glass shops are cheaper then other, just watch out when I wanted to build my tank all the guys tried to give me stronger and more expensive glassthen necessary. It also depends on the thickness on the glass I cant remeember the web site but I googled fishtank glass calculator and it gave me the thickness and the price but in dollar.

Hi 4 mm is strong enough but i will go by 5 mm. work out the pannels needed and go to glass shops and get qoute just make sure the one you choose know wat he is doing if he cuts 1mm out you have a problem also check how they cut as some people can't break the glass strait. Steel with the price of steel now an basic stands steel will not be less than 250

I am going to have to respectfully disagree with this comment, with a reccommended safty factor of 3.8, you need a minimum of 5.4mm glass thickness for a water height of 47cm

i would suggest 6mm sides and a 10mm base with appropriate bracing

id never build the DT out of 4mm, rather gor for 6 or 10mm. they both offer a more stable point of adhesion between panes. when quoting on a tank its tricky, more info is needed to give you what you are hoping to pay for.. glass thickness, positioning of holes for overflows and CLS systems ( if any) and colour of silicone (clear or black as well as various labour costs all impact the bottom line.

Agree with Neil and Les. You never skimp on the glass, there is a glass calculator on the forum and would recommend that any body wanting to build there own tank use it as a guide. I have just ordered glass to build a Cube of the exact measurements the glass 8MM sides and a 10MM base with glass for bracing with the holes for return and overflow drilled in to the panels R1080 incl. Vat and I get my glass at wholesale (the price of glass went up by 12% last month.

    CORRECT NEIL!!!!!:yeahdude:

I have to "fix" to many aquariums that was home made with glass that was not thick enough!!!!!!!

6mm with euro bracing + Kick plates would be the minimum specs I would build this aquarium to.

Ruan, I managed to get glass at Builders Warehouse 6mm for R130/square meter - better than anywhere else I went to (and that includes cutting and polishing edges)

Cant help on the stand chap.
