    Good Day all,

My tank 1200 x 600 x 600. I need to build a sump. Can anyone help me with some good ideas??? I`m new to reef and I need to make 100% sure I build a sump that can handle my tank from the start.

    Regards,

Sump design will depend on what fitration you want to run. Do you want t ogo the basics DSB/refuge route, or the reactor route?

What livestock do you want to keep?

How much space to you have for the sump?

how much space do you have in the cabinet.

What skimmer do you have. And return pump. Actually what is the footprint of both.

Do you want RO chamber also in cabinet.

What corals do you want - eventually. SPS? then you need more space for other reactors and CO2 bottles and Carx reactors. Or not planning on all these extra reactors.

    DSB or NP-pellet route?

Macro algae? Do you want some? Plus lightning for it.

If you going the dsb route, rather drop the bioballs section and make that part dsb as well.
What are you including in the fine filtration section?
Id include a filter sock/floss in the first chamber to catch some of the detritus (just make sure it gets changed/cleaned avery second day).

First little box in the corner, that is for the downpipe. Increase it so that you rather can fit a filter sock on day if you need it.

Skimmer TS1, unless I'm mistaken, you can use a smaller first chamber.

Bio-balls, chuck it, rather use that space for bigger DSB.

Big chamber between DSB and return? No need either.

Here is my similar sump. Its a standard Daro 90L, same length, width is 320mm and 320 height.

And the same sump later on in life.

The live rock is now mostly removed. And it got a DSB back in there. As it used to be.

But anyway, the pictures should give you a better idea.

Just make sure that the bubble trap is big enough for your hand to fit in, if you do use a filter sock. I didnt think of a filter sock when I added a bubble trap to mine and it is a pain to work in.
